Whether you’re clearing out your garage, dealing with the aftermath of DIY or simply having a sort out - the next step is probably a trip to the tip. Thankfully, you’re likely never too far from your closest Southampton recycling centre, with several dotted around the city for you to choose from.

Below, you’ll find helpful list of Southampton tips, including their opening times, the type of items they accept and their address.

Southampton Household Waste Recycling Centre

We’ll start off with the big one, located next to the port. The Southampton Household Waste Recycling Centre is managed for the council by Veolia UK Ltd and allows residents to recycle many items instead of sending them to landfill. While there is no charge required to recycle cardboard, metal, glass, garden waste and other general items, they do impose a limit of eight 50L rubble bags, or four bulky items of DIY Waste, free of charge every four weeks. They also do not accept ammunitions, asbestos, fireworks, gas cylinders, Japanese knotweed, pesticides, petrol, poisons, medical waste & syringes, as well as trade or commercial waste.

Local Recycling Points in Southampton

Southampton City Council offers a network of recycling banks throughout the city, providing residents with accessible options for recycling materials not collected via kerbside services.

Glass Recycling Banks

Residents can deposit mixed glass bottles and jars at numerous glass recycling banks across Southampton. If a bank is full, please report it using the council's online form to ensure timely emptying. Avoid leaving items beside the banks, as this is considered fly-tipping.

Textile and Shoe Recycling Banks

Unwanted clothing, shoes, and household textiles can be recycled at textile banks provided by charities such as The Salvation Army and Salvation Army Trading Company. Items should be placed in plastic bags, and pairs of shoes tied together. If a textile bank is full, contact the number displayed on the bank to request servicing.

For a comprehensive list of recycling bank locations and more details on accepted materials, please visit the Southampton City Council's recycling banks page.
